FAQ’s About My Practice & Therapy

CAN I USE MY INSURANCE?

I work with clients insured by many insurance companies (Including Aetna, BlueCross and BlueShield, Cigna, Multiplan, Oxford, United) on an out-of-network basis. My license, training, and education will allow you to be qualified for out-of-network reimbursement with your insurance plan. Most plans are able to reimburse for out-of-network psychotherapy services at their particular rates.

My being out-of-network helps to ensure your utmost confidentiality and privacy when working together. I do not need to release your records to any third party without your consent. Also, when using your insurance on an in-network basis, I must diagnose you with a mental health condition that would become part of your permanent medical record and may impact future employment, life insurance policies, and other matters that vary by individual. Information about the nature of your treatment and the issues discussed in sessions remain solely between you and I. (The basic limits to confidentiality, standard to any psychotherapy process, will be further addressed when we meet).

My fees are comparable to therapists in the area with similar experience. Please contact me directly to discuss further.

HOW OFTEN DOES THERAPY LAST, AND HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME?

The length of time therapy takes varies from one person to the next, and is influenced by the issues at hand as well as goals of the counseling process. Some clients have very specific short-term goals that they want to work on, while others have more long-standing problems, or wish to take more time to explore how they can improve multiple facets of their lives.

I prefer to see clients on a weekly basis for the first several months alone. Seeing each other weekly will allow me to get to know you better, helping us to best understand your needs and how you can reach your goals. I am able to see a client on a biweekly basis once he or she feels that some progress has been made, and we each agree that we both have a comprehensive understanding of presenting concerns.

DO YOU DO COUPLE’S COUNSELING?

I elect to practice therapy on an individual basis only. That being said, I have had much success in working with clients who wish to address relationship concerns in individual therapy. At times, one member of a couple may want to see me to process thoughts and feelings on their own, while simultaneously engaging in couples counseling with their significant other. I am extremely accustomed to working this way, and will make every effort to communicate with your couple’s therapist so that you receive treatment in a consistent manner.

HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

You can call me or email me through my online contact form, including the best phone number to reach you, and I will get back to you right away. If you choose to book an appointment with me through ZocDoc, I will call you at the number you provided shortly after you book your appointment. I will talk with you about the main reasons you are seeking counseling, and ask you a few other questions. If it’s decided that we are a good fit, an initial appointment will be scheduled or confirmed.
